About Hachette Children's Group

Hachette Children's Group (HCG) is the children's publishing division of Hachette UK, formed by bringing Hachette UK's children's publishers together into one group that began operating on 1 January 2015.

Formation. Announced in September 2014, the group merged Hachette Children's Books, Orion Children's Publishing and the UK arm of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. It started with six imprints that kept their own names: Orion Children's Books, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Hodder Children's Books and Orchard Books for fiction, and Franklin Watts and Wayland for schools and libraries. Hilary Murray Hill came from Egmont to be chief executive.

Authors and books. HCG calls itself one of the largest children's publishers in the UK, with lists ranging from baby books and picture books to fiction, non-fiction and licensed publishing. Its authors include Cressida Cowell, Jacqueline Wilson, J.K. Rowling, Lauren Child, Leigh Bardugo and Alice Oseman. HCG acquired Oseman's Heartstopper, which began as a webcomic in 2016, in October 2018 and published Volume 1 in February 2019. HCG also owns Enid Blyton Entertainment.

Today. HCG is based at Carmelite House on Victoria Embankment in London and belongs to Lagardère Publishing. Its current imprints include Orchard Books, Wren & Rook, Laurence King, Welbeck Children's Books, Blyton Books, Franklin Watts and Wayland, while Hodder Children's Books, Orion Children's Books, Quercus Children's Books and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers now appear as former imprints.
